Lesson From A Blackout

Wednesday night we had some nasty storms in our neck of the woods.  We ended up loosing power for 4 or 5 hours.  I learned a few things and had some revelations during my time in the dark:

1.)  I definitely need more candles.
2.)  My dog acts ridiculously strange when the lights are out
3.)  One of my favorite things to do is camp and no electricity is fantastic...but I do enjoy it at HOME
4.)  No matter how long the power was off, I still tried turning the lights on.....I apparently wasn't getting it
5.)  A bit ironic that the one night I am cooking dinner we have no power....(if that wasn't a sign I don't know what is)
6.)  I really think I could live without lights but God please don't take my internet service away
7.)  I would ALWAYS go to bed early without the distractions of modern technology
8.)  As much as I love my Amish kinfolk I will not be converting to their faith any time soon
9.)  I actually did not attempt to craft in the dark....I know shocking right?
10.)  Jerrod has a light on his bike helmet that is blinding yet handy at the same time....see pics below

At the onset of the storm Jerrod began the project of bottling the homemade wine that he has been brewing for the last few months (clearly he didn't know that he would be bottling in the dark)  Luckily he had is handy dandy bike helmet lamp designed for night rides/power outages.

Here he is helmet and bike gear (post ride) putting corks in

Boxing up the goods

I just liked this picture

Told you....weird dog :)

While it was an inconvenience that we lost power, my heart breaks for those who have lost loved ones and homes during the terrible storms and tornadoes that have been tearing apart our country.  I cannot fathom the devastation and destruction that thousands of families are dealing with right now.  I pray for them and the many volunteers that are in the field trying to make a difference.

Hope you have a sunny week~

Darby

  1. love the bike helmet. dad got all the boys headlamps like that a couple christmases back. we use it ALL the time. it is apparently helpful for both wine distribution and spray painting outside at night. :)
